By the mid-80s, Reebok started to turn over $1.5 million+ per annum. Just five years later, he purchased the entire company and made it what it is today. The two struck up a deal that saw Paul walk away with the exclusive rights to licence and distribute the brand in North America. When Joe Foster travelled to Chicago in 1979 to attend the city’s NSGA (National Sporting Goods Association) Show, he met Paul, who, at the time, was an outdoor gear wholesaler. How did Reebok explode onto the footwear scene? The globalisation of the brand can be credited to a Brockton-born man named Paul Fireman. The two enjoyed a certain level of steady success for over two decades. From inception, Jeff took charge of the production side of the business whilst Joe was responsible for the marketing and sales aspects. Ergo, they decided to christen their company ‘Reebok’ instead, after flicking through a South African dictionary and discovering the Afrikaans word for a grey rhebok (a speedy species of antelope). A few years later, the brothers cut their teeth at the company before leaving to start their own venture in 1958.Īlthough they originally entitled their brand ‘Mercury Sports Footwear’, The Foster brothers ran into issues when attempting to register the brand name. When Joseph passed away in 1933, Joe and Jeff’s father Jim, along with their uncle Bill, took over the family business. From 1900 onwards, Joseph dedicated his life to creating running pumps for athletes (he was one of the first shoemakers to produce trainers featuring track spikes) and, during wartimes, boots for soldiers. The brand was officially established in Greater Manchester by brothers Joe and Jeff Foster – the grandsons of Joseph William Foster of J.W Foster and Sons. Like most popular footwear labels, Reebok comes from humble beginnings. ![]() So, whatever you require from a pair of trainers, we ask you, why look any further than Reebok? How was Reebok founded? Naturally, each silhouette is so meticulously made that it transcends its raison d’être - it’s not unusual for us to rock a pair of Reebok tennis shoes at a Sunday brunch, or utilise the technology of a trail running Reebok crep at the gym. For decades, the British sportswear label has provided us with dapper, dependable trainers for every activity and motive imaginable we’ve copped then rocked Reebok trainers specifically designed for tennis, CrossFit, hiking, basketball, trail running and more. ![]() ![]() Don't waste your time.Reebok trainers have yet to let us down. So just so you know, Reebok only allows online deliveries to people that live in houses, and they don't have an email address. I've never had so much trouble trying to purchase a product before. I just tried to call and was told I would be on hold for 30 minutes. I mean seriously, most people living in the city live in an apartment so where is the logic in this? I wanted to write an email to give this feedback, but I had to go hunting for their contact information and when I found it, there was a phone number, but for email it said "click here". There is nowhere for you to enter an apartment number, and no place to add a message with instructions. They have it set up where you choose your address based on how you type it in but here's the thing: the site will not accept an apartment number, only the house address. I tried to order a pair of runners online and spent 30 minutes trying to enter my address, which the site refused to acknowledged. ![]()
